It appears that Genesis will be throwing everything at the German luxury auto makers by coming up with models that will go toe to toe with every one of the Teutonic offerings. And this time, it’s a coupe version of the incredible GV80 SUV.
According to a credible source in Korea, the upstart Korean luxury brand Genesis is preparing a sleeker coupe version of their midsize SUV to give troubles to the likes of the BMW X6 that pioneered the segment, which now has become an absolute necessity if you want to be who’s who in the luxury car world.
The Sleeker Version of Already Very Sleek GV80
Understandably, without even the test cars being spotted as of yet, the details on the GV80 Coupe is sketchy, but we anticipate that the mechanicals and the features would be similar to that of the standard SUV. However, with the introduction of the coupe version, a Sport model would be a likely addition, similar to that of its smaller sibling GV70 Sport, employing sportier interior and more aggressive front grille and body claddings.
An additional engine choice would be welcoming as well, on top of the current 375-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine and 300-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Like the 400-horspower-plus engine that’s currently being developed for models such as G80 Sport and the next-generation G90 sedan. If the rakish version of the GV80 is released, it’s expected to easily exceed $80,000 price barrier from it’s current $50,000 to $70,000 price range. FYI, as reported previously, the smaller GV70 will also undergo a similar transformation to compete with the BMW X4 and the Mercedes Benz GLC.
