The highly anticipated Ioniq 5, Hyundai’s answer to Tesla Model Y, is finally here. Making its historic debut is the first of the 3-brand new pure electric vehicle from the Korean automaker that’s poised to take over the world in the upcoming electric automobile age.
The exclusive electric car brand's Ioniq 5 interior also features a host of eco-friendly touches like plant-derived materials and eco-processed leather and textiles derived from sustainable fibers.
Hyundai is already the 4th most sold electric car maker in the world with its popular products such as Kona Electric and Ioniq EV. Similar to what they have done with the Genesis luxury division, Hyundai will spin off a new dedicated electric car brand from a name of a single model called IONIQ.
IONIQ 5 is arguably the most groundbreaking model that Hyundai has ever produced
The first car under its belt, the Ioniq 5, is based on Hyundai’s next-generation electric car platformed called E-GMP or Electric Global Modular Platform. As the name suggests, this skateboard-like platform is highly modular and flexible and can be utilized to spawn many different types and sizes of cars in the future, from coupes to SUVs. After the introduction of the compact IONIQ 5 SUV, the 4-door coupe Ioniq 6, which is based on the sleek Hyundai Prophecy, and the full-size SUV, which is known as Ioniq 7 will be released in the next 2-3 years.
The Ioniq 5 is slightly smaller in size compared to Hyundai Santa Fe in overall dimensions, but the wheelbase at 118 inches is actually 4-inches longer than that of Hyundai Palisade’s, thanks to the magic of the dedicated modular E-GMP platform. It also features a completely flat bottom floor rendering full flexibility in the living-room-like interior space design that offers full sliding and reclining front seats, and the accompanying center console island.
The exclusive electric car brand's Ioniq 5 interior also features a host of eco-friendly touches like plant-derived materials and eco-processed leather and textiles derived from sustainable fibers.
The maximum range of the Ioniq 5 will be 500 km or 310 miles on a single charge, and with the latest 800V charging architecture, the Ioniq 5 can recharge the battery in 18 minutes with 350 kW ultra-fast charging. Also, it’s able to add around 60 miles or 100 km to the range with a quick 5-minute charge. Thanks to Ioniq 5’s 313 hp dual-motor driving all four wheels, it can dash to 60 mph in about 5 seconds!
The Ioniq 5 will be released in the domestic market in Korea at the end of February 2021. For the rest of the world, the 3rd Quarter 2021 release is most likely. The expected price of the Ioniq 5 is $45,000 in the US.
